Learning Counseling

Individual Learning Counseling

When children face learning difficulties, they can also have increased levels of depression, anxiety, social disruption, defiant/oppositional behavior and an overall decline in mood quality. Since challenges are not directly related to the actual coursework, classic tutoring becomes ineffective. Some children face these  symptoms due to not knowing how to effectively communicate the trouble they are having with their school work. This is especially true for children who suffer from Dyslexia, children who are overly inattentive due to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and children who have been diagnosed with Autism, Asperger's or placed somewhere on the Spectrum of these disorders.

In order to address these symptoms and concerns, Advanced Therapy Associates offers learning counseling. These sessions occur with an Oklahoma Board Certified Teacher with specialized educational training who has experience assisting children with learning disabilities, and/or behavioral concerns that typically have a negative impact on learning (for example, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). The teacher, student and parent(s) work together to create a specialized service plan so that individualized goals are created, specific strategies are utilized to address a child's current weaknesses and progress is monitored. Learning counseling appointments can occur in the office setting,  but are preferably done in the home to assist with the natural study environment. These sessions are typically scheduled one time per week, but can be scheduled up to three times per week depending on the student's needs.

NOTE: Learning Counseling sessions are not covered by insurance and are a cash pay program.
